Today co-host Chanel Jones' husband dies of brain cancer

New York, NY — Uche Ojeh, the beloved husband of longtime Today show co-anchor Sheinelle Jones, has died at age 45 following a courageous fight against glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The Today show delivered the heartbreaking news during Friday morning’s broadcast. During the segment, Jones’s co-hosts — Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager — shared the announcement with visible emotion.

“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Guthrie said through tears. “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”

Jones and Ojeh were married for 18 years. Together, they raised three children: 15-year-old son Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche. Throughout their life together, friends and colleagues often described Ojeh as devoted, kind, and deeply supportive of Jones’s high-profile career.

Earlier this year, in January, Jones took a leave of absence from the Today show. At the time, she explained the decision in an Instagram post, noting that she needed to care for a family health matter.

“Hi everybody…I sincerely appreciate all of you who reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

Although she did not disclose specific details at the time, Jones emphasized how much she valued the support of her coworkers and audience. Moreover, she expressed deep gratitude for the messages of love and encouragement.

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon,” she added.

In light of Ojeh’s passing, the Today show team has rallied around Jones and her children. “Sheinelle, Kayin, Uche, Clara — and the entire Ojeh family — we are with you. We love you,” Guthrie said during the broadcast.

At this time, the family has not shared funeral arrangements. However, they have requested privacy as they navigate this painful chapter.

For those who wish to honor Ojeh’s memory, the family suggests making donations to organizations that support glioblastoma research. Without a doubt, his life and legacy will continue to inspire everyone who knew him. News Source
